It’s the time of year where seasons change completely overnight.
Let’s get through October first. As Halloween looms over us, there’s a variety of ways to celebrate regardless of your age. Don’t miss the annualHalloween Funfest, put on by the Champaign and Urbana Park Districts as well as Market Place Mall, today beginning at 5:00 p.m. This is a free, and safe way for kids to trick-or-treat, show off their costumes, and go through a family-friendly haunted house.
Speaking of haunted houses, if you haven’t visited one yet this season, there are four in Champaign County, all offering something different. Baldwin Asylum is a top-ten ranked haunted house in Illinois and it’s clear why. The masterminds behind Taylor Studios, known for the exquisite museum exhibits, have put extensive thought and detail into really giving you a good scare. Also in Rantoul is the Haunt Masters held in the Rural King gives you a Fear Factory and Psychosis experience, but you can also do Zombie Paintball. The Haunt at Bonesaw Mill at Fluid Event Center added a Freak Show this year and the Midway of Madness Haunted Barn at the Fairgrounds has rounded up some carnies for a good, scary experience.
Once Halloween is over, we are officially moving seasons. Helping us through the transition is the annual C-U Folk & Roots Festival. This great event, held throughout Urbana, will be held November 3-5 and will feature over 80 performances. There will be dances, jam sessions, instrument making and storytelling over the course of the weekend and will welcome several well known artists in folk music.
For more music, we’re excited to have the re-opening of the State Farm Center the last week of the month which has a powerful lineup that week of Dierks Bentley, The 1975 and Pentatonix. Of course, it’s Homecoming week as well on campus so there will be a ton of activities including another great parade on that Friday night.
The rest of October will be a flurry of activity and we should enjoy every moment before heading into holiday mode!
