Home to Fighting Illini Football, Memorial Stadium is a sight to see. Built in 1923 as a memorial to Illinois men and women who gave their lives for their country in World War 1, the stadium boasts 200 columns with the names of the fallen. On the day of the dedication in 1924, Harold E. “Red” Grange had the single greatest performance in Memorial Stadium history with six touchdowns. A bronze statue of the legend can be found on the west side of the stadium. The stadium now showcases a 36’ x 96’ high-definition video board and the Colonnades Club, a premier event space in Champaign County.
