Champaign, IL – Several thousand runners are expected to show off their colors at The Color Run, October 17, 2015 at Market Place Mall. Nicknamed the “Happiest 5K on the Planet,” this original paint race is an untimed 5K where runners are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer.
The Color Run is currently in 114 US cities and over 50 countries world-wide. After holding a successful race in 2014, the organization was anxious to return to Champaign-Urbana and once again host a fun and entertaining run for the community.
“We're excited to bring back The Color Run to Champaign this year!” explains Callan Graham, Race Director. “Our theme for 2015 is the Shine Tour, so in addition to getting covered in color, runners can expect a lot of new glittery and shiny elements. This year each runner will receive a finisher medal!”
While the event primarily caters to the residents and students in the community, Visit Champaign County expects a great deal of regional registrations as well. “The Color Run is a nationally-recognized event and with Champaign County’s central location, we anticipate a significant influx of participants from around the state and surrounding areas,” states Leah Longueville, Director of Sales for Visit Champaign County.
Since starting in 2012, The Color Run has raised more than $4 million for local charities, with a goal of promoting healthiness and happiness by putting together events that people want to tell their friends about. The run in Champaign will partner with the United Way of Champaign County, and will donate a portion of the proceeds back to the organization.
“Color Runners,” vary in demographics and reasons for running. With no winners or official times, The Color Run caters to anyone—first time runners to professional athletes. Close to 50 percent of Color Runners are first-time 5K runners and participate as a celebration and capstone of their healthy living accomplishments. Following the event in Champaign, runners can celebrate at the Finish Festival featuring music, dancing and massive color throws.
Visit Champaign County aided organizers in bring the event to the area and will provide support in helping coordinate media and providing community resources to the thousands participating. For questions regarding The Color Run, contact Lauren Hamberg, email@example.com.
