Weekend Preview February 23-25

As February comes to a close, the light at the end of the winter tunnel has started shine brighter and brighter with spring just on the horizon. With a sunny forecast and rising temperatures lay the groundwork for a truly amazing, Outside of Ordinary weekend in the greater Champaign County area!

Outdoor Events

Owl Prowl: More owls can be found in Champaign County amid the winter months, and some species breed during this time. That means we have a good chance of hearing or seeing a live owl in the wild! A great family fun activity to end the week. Children under 2 free!

Maple Sugar Days: Can’t get enough of anything maple? Maple Sugar Days is exactly where you need to be this Saturday morning. From learning about Homer Lake Forest Preserve’s 200-year-old sugar maple grove to digging in to your own sample of maple syrup, this event is a family fun way to start the Saturday.

Family Fun

A Place For All People: Experience a little taste of a Special Smithsonian exhibit at the Homer Lake Interpretive Center. This traveling exhibit offers a look into African-American history that you would see in the National Museum of African-American History and Culture. Take advantage of this amazing exhibit while it’s close.

Illini Women’s Basketball: The Fighting Illini Women’s Basketball team takes on Minnesota this Sunday in the final home game of the season. Grab your best Illini gear, pack the place, and cheer your hometown team to a win!

Folks & Roots Winter Weekend: Bluegrass in every form, beer, and a host of homegrown talent all jammin’ out this Friday and Saturday at the Iron Post.

35th Annual Insect Fear Film Festival Featuring Ticks: If the tiny, creepy crawly, disgustingly frightful sight of ticks excites you, this is the place to be. This free show Saturday provides a look back at some classic horror to fill the void fright film buffs are feeling with 2018.

All Out A Cappella: Live show are amazing in themselves, but add in a cappela routines and you’ve got a show that’s sure to entertain everyone. This Saturday at 5, step Outside of Ordinary and enjoy a show like no other.

Drew Baldridge: Music is best when it’s authentic, when it comes straight from an artist’s heart and bursts from the speakers. It makes a connection with the listener that forms an immediate bond. Drew Baldridge creates music with that kind of impact. The happy-go-lucky guy looking to get his groove on in his debut single “Dance With Ya” is the same Drew that enjoys visiting with fans after a show, and it’s that kind of down home charm combined with a powerful voice and constantly-honed songwriting skills that make Baldridge one of country music’s most promising new talents.
