An Outside of Ordinary New Year’s Eve can be stressful to plan, so we went ahead and collected some of the hottest events in our area for you! Whether you’re celebrating with the whole family, a special someone, or just “doing you”, we’re here to make sure you have plans heading into 2019.
New Year’s Fun for All Ages
Midnight might be a bit too late for the kids, so consider some great options to celebrate at 12 PM rather than 12 AM. At the Orpheum, you can get decked out in party hats and noisemakers as sounds of the season float through the air. Their Noon Day Drop includes craft activities, music, crazy hats, noisemakers, a countdown to the big event, and a drop of more than 5000 balloons at the strike of noon. If you’re looking for all the fun with a bit of education included, Party Like It’s 1900 at the Museum of the Grand Prairie. Make snacks, design crafts to celebrate the New Year, all while learning about the history of this holiday.
Dining Events for an Elegant Evening
Resolutions about dieting or not eating out are officially NOT allowed to start until after Restaurant Week later in January, so ring in the new year with some delicious eats! A New Year’s Eve Dinner at Silvercreek is set for three decadent courses and live music into the late evening; just make sure to make reservations! Get a sneak peak of Restaurant Week, with a special New Year's Eve menu at Houlihan's. Make your reservation before you go!
If you’re in for a mansion party, the Allerton NYE Celebration is filled with costumes, cocktails, music, and dancing! Come in your masquerade mask and cocktail best to enjoy passed hors d’oeuvres, a live DJ, and an open beer/wine bar. Stay safe and responsible with a special $60 rate to stay overnight in the Mansion!
An Entertaining New Year’s Eve
There’s no shortage of entertainment on NYE in our area! The CU Comedy Club is featuring a night of comedy capped with Chicago Women's Funny Festival headliner Kristen Toomey. The comedy scene in Champaign-Urbana is rich with great talent, and sure to be a gut-busting night. At Canopy Club’s NYE bash, tickets yield you complimentary well drinks & select drafts, a pizza buffet from Manolo’s Pizza from 9-11pm, and special aerial performances from Defy Gravity! If you’re bigger on the blues, Neil St. Blues is hosting their 1st annual NYE Extravaganza featuring Master James and the Show Stoppers, free hors d’oeuvres, complimentary champagne at midnight, free parking, prizes, and more! Are you a little less Memphis blues and a bit more Nashville country? The Feudin’ Hillbillys are taking over the City Center for a night full of roots and bluegrass fun.
There’s no shortage of fun to be had in the greater Champaign County area on any given night, but New Year’s Eve brings out some of the best entertainment, eats, and family events the state has to offer.
