Valentine’s Day is Thursday, and all week we want to reflect on why we love our community. There’s plenty to see and do in the greater Champaign County area, so we’re asking you to post each day about things you love about the area! Today, we’re talking Arts and Culture!
Whether you love art, music, theater, or dance, the greater Champaign County area is rich with talented individuals who share their craft every day. Not only is local art thriving, but the culture of the greater Champaign County area is one of inclusivity, community, and diversity. With so much to do and see from local artists, we sometimes also forget the stellar level of talent that make their way to our area to perform, including dance teams, international music stars, and more.
For many, summers would be incomplete without Friday Night Live. The excitement builds all Friday afternoon to get out of work and into downtown Champaign for live music and plenty of friends. Likewise, the dual role of the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts as well as the Krannert Art Museum make the Champaign-Urbana area rich with perspective and unique experiences.
Japan House at the University of Illinois is also a crucial pillar of the University and local community, consistently bringing in experts and leading thinkers in East Asian culture and cuisine. The Cinema Gallery in Urbana is another favorite, showcasing artists from all over the country and world in a unique, historic space. These and so many more make the greater Champaign County area the cultural cornerstone it is today.
