Valentine’s Day is Thursday, and all week we want to reflect on why we love our community. There’s plenty to see and do in the greater Champaign County area, so we’re asking you to post each day about things you love about the area! Today, we’re talking Family Activities!
The greater Champaign County area is hailed by residents for being an incredible place to start and raise a family. Whether you plan on watching your kids grow up here, or just want to bring them into the area for a quick getaway, there are countless opportunities for you and your family to enjoy an #OutsideofOrdinary experience, no matter what you love to do.
With so many incredible rural areas in the greater Champaign County area, there are incredible experiences available you cannot find anywhere else. The wildlife experience at Aikman’s in Arthur is truly something you need to see with your own eyes; riding around alongside buffalo, horses, and zebra are just a sliver of the animal experiences you’ll have while visiting. If you want a little holiday magic come to life, you can see reindeer up close at Hardy’s Reindeer Ranch in Rantoul. Especially as Christmas comes up on the calendar, a trip to pet reindeer and see them in person can spark holiday magic in visitors of all ages. While we’re on the topic of rural hotspots in the area, keep in mind a quick run to pickup some internationally award winning honey and delicious apple cider donuts from Curtis Orchard.
For larger than life experiences, nothing beats a trip to the Monticello Railway Museum, especially on days where you can ride in a historic train car after exploring all the artifacts from trains of the past in the great visitor’s center. Speaking of larger than life, if the family is looking for an electric experience, nothing beats the roar of an orange-filled crowd at an Illini athletics event. Whether it’s football, basketball, softball, or tennis, Illini sports allows families the chance to see world-class athletes perform and play some of your favorite games up close and personal.
Families are never bored in the greater Champaign County area, and there's so much to do here, we can't list it all in one blog! So we’re asking you to share your favorite family activity on social media! Tag us and use the hashtag #OutsideofOrdinary so we can share your post! You never know: a family favorite event for you might become someone else’s new tradition, and bring the community together.
