Calendar of Events
This festival features a mixture of components that have been curated over the decade-plus of its existence: music, comedy, literature, technology & hacking, and handmade goods. 2019 brings headliner and comedian Eric Andre to the stage along with other leading names in entertainment such as comedienne Michelle Wolf, Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski, indie rockers Japanese Breakfast and the New Pornographers, Where else can you watch a Tesla coil in an amphitheater, laugh until you cry and listen to live music and a poetry marathon in one culture-filled weekend?
Check out some of this year's highlights:
JAPANESE BREAKFAST is the indie rock project by Michelle Zauner, who just so happens to be hard at work on her upcoming memoir Crying in H Mart, which is due out in 2020. Japanese Breakfast performs on opening night of PYGMALION on Thursday September 26th at Canopy Club, and prior to that, you can see Zauner read from her memoir for free at Krannert Center. The band is coming off of their breakthrough record Soft Sounds from Another Planet, with plans for a new album next year.
ANTONI POROWSKI of Queer Eye is their food and wine connoisseur, and with his new book Antoni In The Kitchen on the way, he'll be performing a cooking demo and engage directly with the audience to discuss the book, showcase recipes, and more at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts on Friday September 27th.
THE MADE FEST once again returns to showcase some of the best and most creative makers in the midwest, located in the heart of PYGMALION on Goodwin Avenue in front of Canopy Club on Friday September 27th and Saturday September 28th. You can check out all of this year's vendors at thisispygmalion.com/made and pick up some amazing wears and handmade items from the market.
THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS are touring this fall in support of their new record In The Morse Code of Brake Lights, and the legendary indie rock troupe will be touring with the famed Neko Case, who has had a breakout solo career of her own. The New Pornographers are indie rock darlings in many ways, and have a steady track record of excellent releases and an entertaining live act throughout the two-plus decades of performing.
ERIC ANDRE's massive world tour — his largest solo tour to date — features PYGMALION as one one of the most intimate show spaces he'll be performing in on his Legalize Everything tour this year. Andre came into focus when his Adult Swim show The Eric Andre Show catapulted his wild approach to humor and comedy into popularity, hosting everyone from Chris Rock to Seth Rogan to Lauren Conrad and more. In year 15, PYGMALION's headliner is a comedian, and Andre will hit the stage on Saturday September 28th at Canopy Club.
