Japan House Mottainai: Annual Bazaar
2000 S. Lincoln Ave.
Urbana, Illinois 61801
Mottainai is a Japanese word conveying a sense of regret concerning waste. It can be uttered as an exclamation and is considered a basic Japanese cultural concept. So, we say “MOTTAINAI!” and encourage you to renew and refresh your household by giving the items you purchase at the Bazaar a new life in your home.
Focusing on the "4 R's", reduce, reuse, recycle and respect, we have gathered unique items and accessories from all our friends around the world and will be offering them for sale to you. In addition to those treasures and a few items imported from Japan, the Japan House Interns have been working hard to create handmade crafts for sale.
Many items at the Annual Holiday Bazaar are Asian or Asian-inspired, but there are many others from cultures across the globe. Just a few of the treasures you will find: Asian pottery, household goods, imported items, kimono, origami, handmade Intern crafts, antiques, scrolls, books, prints, matcha tea, clothing, collectibles, tea equipment, jewelry and more!
All funds raised by this event go to support the Japan House Internship Program. Please help us continue this important initiative!
The Japan House Annual Bazaar provides funding for the Japan House Internship Program, which is an integral part of the day to day functions at Japan House, as well as serving as student ambassadors for the University.
Cash, check, and all major credit cards are accepted. All proceeds from the Bazaar go to support the Japan House Internship Program. Donations are accepted during the event.
This is a FREE, family-friendly event, and there is definitely something for everyone! Stop by as many times as you wish!
