Toshi Reagon is a multi-talented and versatile singer, composer, and musician with a profound ear for sonic Americana—from folk to funk, from blues to rock. In her solo performance A Parable Becoming, Reagon shares music from Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower, the opera she co-wrote with Bernice Johnson Reagon, and reflects on the experience of her deep engagement with Butler’s work. The evening will also uplift the work of Parable Path CU, an initiative that connects the social themes of Butler’s novel to the Champaign-Urbana community.
