Writer, director and producer Mark Roberts, best known as the creator of the CBS sitcom “Mike & Molly,” and writer of “Two and a Half Men,” returns to his hometown of Urbana, Ill. for a one-night live event. Roberts will perform a reading of his recently released children’s newspaper, “The Bad Mule Rag,” Friday, Sept. 30th at 7 p.m. at The Cohen Building, 136 W. Main St.

Sponsored by The Literary and The Urbana Free Library, admission is free and complimentary copies of “The Bad Mule Rag” will be available for all attendees.

“The Bad Mule Rag,” is a collection of comedic, heartwarming, and thought-provoking poems and stories, for kids and adults alike, written and illustrated by Roberts and published in newspaper form. Roberts will read selections from “The Bad Mule Rag,” with musical accompaniment from percussionist Brian Reedy.

DJ Nate Jones will provide music before and after the reading.

Roberts will also be promoting the release of two upcoming comedy albums for kids: “The Lonely Banjo,” a collection of stories, poems and music from and inspired by his recently released book of the same name (featuring performances by actor/writer David Pasquesi, actor/writer Tim Kazurinsky, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, and more), and “The Bad Mule Rag Live,” a reading of selections from “The Bad Mule Rag,” performed and recorded live in front of a studio audience.

All proceeds from “The Bad Mule Rag Live” will be donated to Moms Demand Action, an organization that works to promote gun safety and end gun violence.
