The Champaign-Urbana Theatre Company announces its next production, “OUR TOWN.” The beloved play is written by Thornton Wilder and directed by Mathew Green.
“OUR TOWN” will be performed from March 14-17, Thursday through Saturday at 7:00pm, and Sunday at 2:00pm. Reservations may be made through cutheatreco.org
Mathew Green directs a cast of 20 that includes CUTC regulars, Parkland College Theatre students, local high school students, and theatre newcomers. Described by playwright Edward Albee as “…the greatest American play ever written,” the story follows the small town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire through three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage,” and “Death and Eternity.” Narrated by a Stage Manager and performed with minimal props and sets, audiences follow the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and face the prospect of eternity. A 1938 Pulitzer Prize winner and part of the American theatrical canon, “OUR TOWN” still resonates today. The CUTC production, under Green’s direction, will explore the play’s relevance and universality with a modern staging.
CUTC’s production of “OUR TOWN” will be performed at Parkland College’s Second Stage Theater.
