Living Outside of Ordinary: Week of 5/13

May 13, 2019

In the past month, how many days can you truly remember? On average, a few days, 4 or 5 if you’re lucky, stand out from the daily routines we all experience. That’s why Visit Champaign County is launching our new “Living Outside of Ordinary” Campaign aimed at residents and visitors as a means to encourage everyone to discover new places throughout the greater Champaign County area.

Each week, we’ll give you one thing to do each day, something Outside of Ordinary, to make sure you have a way to make each day memorable. We’ll be busy brainstorming over the next year to make sure you have ways to break out of the routine and immerse yourself in the amazing things happening right in your backyard. Some will be events, but others may be something as simple as getting outdoors, meeting a friend for a drink, or checking out a new store or restaurant. The goal is simple: when you’re Living Outside of Ordinary, you’re making memories, so we can all cherish each and every day.

Is this finally the week we get warm and stay there? Let’s hope so, because spring concerts and outdoor adventure are ramping up in the greater Champaign County area. Highlights this week include the Back Forty Market at the Great Pumpkin Patch in Arthur, an #OutsideofOrdinary experience for kids at Centennial Park, and the beginning of 13 Thursdays, a deal-filled series of reasons to head to Campustown while the students are away!

Monday, May 13 – See some #OutsideofOrdinary innovation at the Parkland College Graphic Design Student Show at Giertz Gallery!

Tuesday, May 14 – Grab lunch at Sakanaya, a campus area favorite, now that students are gone and the wait is much shorter!

Wednesday, May 15 – Touch a Truck in Centennial Park! Tow trucks, fire trucks, police cars, and more will be available for kids to explore.

Thursday, May 16 – Explore the first 13 Thursdays, a chance to redeem deals in Campustown now that the students are gone for the summer!

Friday – May 17 – Head to Crystal Lake Park for the sunset backdropped 6th annual Roots Walk!

Saturday, May 18 – Explore the Back Forty Market at the Great Pumpkin Patch! Shop local goods, eats, and more!

Sunday, May 19  – It’s National Take your Parent to the Park Day! Play is important for the whole family to participate in, so head to a child in your life’s favorite park and play the day away!
