Five Ways to Celebrate Dad this Father’s Day Weekend
Father’s Day weekend is a great way to show dad that you care about him! The father figures in our lives shape us in priceless ways, and it’s the least we can do to make them feel special when this weekend rolls around every year. If you’re looking for some inspiration, there’s plenty to do in the greater Champaign County this weekend, some of which is specifically themed around that special guy in your life.
If Dad loves the outdoors…
2019 Champaign County Garden Walk, Idea Garden
June 15, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The Champaign County Master Gardeners invite you to their 25th Garden Walk this Saturday. The whole family can take dad for a gorgeous garden walk that shows off some of the best work in the county. Time outdoors is often perfect for dads who love fresh air, quality time with loved ones, and some physical activity.
If Dad loves food and festivals…
Strawberry Jam, Meadowbrook Park
June 15th, 4 p.m. – 9 p.m.
There is no better way to celebrate a Dad that loves festivals and food than with live music and a favorite summertime treat! Enjoy musical performances by local musicians and taste fresh strawberries over ice cream (while supplies last). This year is the district’s 30th Strawberry Jam event and the Anita Purves Nature Center’s 40th anniversary. Blast-from-the-past planned event activities include things for the whole family to do, see, and enjoy!
If Dad loves to swim…
Father’s Day Celebration, Sholem Aquatic Center
June 16th, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Bring dad to the Sholem Aquatic Center for a fun-filled Father’s Day celebration! Dad will enjoy a stress-free day while floating along the lazy river, sliding down one of our three water slides, or just lounging in the water at the main pool.
Father’s Day festivities include:
• Free admission for all dads (must be accompanied by a paying child).
• “The Hop & Flop Daddy Drop” – this popular dads-only cannonball contest could land your pops in some seriously cool prizes!
• “Draw your Dad” picture contest for kids ages 3-12.
• Half-priced root beer floats for all dads at The Oasis concession stand.
If Dad loves craft beer…
Artist Alley Concert Series, Pour Bros. Taproom
June 15th, 8:30 p.m.
The Artist Alley Concert Series takes place every Saturday night throughout the summer. It’s free to attend and the style of music changes almost weekly. Bring Dad for a craft beer and some great local music!
If you’re not quite sure what Dad wants to do…
Let Dad Pick!
The best option when it’s unclear what to do for Father’s Day is to let Dad choose the plans for the day. Check our events calendar for weekend happenings, or just go out for some food or a movie! There’s no wrong way to celebrate the father figure in your life, so long as you are together!
