Meet Safe

As we begin to reopen and events resume, Visit Champaign County is ensuring the safety of travelers and meeting & event planners. Alongside our partners, we are continually monitoring developments surrounding COVID-19 under the guidance of local, state and national health and travel authorities.  Across the city, from transportation to restaurants, Champaign County’s businesses and services are taking steps to ensure public health and safety, with over 200 that have signed the Champaign County Pledge.

With the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign setting the tone for vigilance in our community, and Champaign County as a leading destination in Illinois in vaccination rates, we are fully engaged with local and state officials to coordinate a safe return for visitors and the meetings and event industry.  Our hospitality community is working together to implement enhanced procedures to safely welcome you back with our Outside of Ordinary standards.

Champaign County is currently in the Bridge Phase of the Restore Illinois Plan. As we gain positive momentum with vaccinations and enhanced safety measures, restrictions will be lifted to Phase 5.

Under the current phase, the following is allowed:

Meetings, Conferences, and Conventions

Lesser of 1,000 people or 60% capacity

Social Events

Indoor: 250 people

Outdoor: 500 people

Seated areas: Patrons ≥ 6 feet apart; parties ≤ 10

Standing areas: 30% capacity indoors; 50% capacity outdoors

Once 50% of residents 16 and older have been vaccinated and stable or declining COVID-19 metrics are recorded during a 28-day monitoring period, Phase 5 will be implemented, removing capacity limits altogether. Learn more about the Restore Illinois Plan.

The State of Illinois, including Champaign County, has a mask requirement for all non-vaccinated residents and visitors aged 3 and over for all public areas.
